Field Trip

The field trip departs from Sulaimani city and travels to the Kawlos area, near Saysaid (Saisadiq) District, before continuing to Halabja city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, crossing the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt along the way. The route continues along the road to Halabja, with stops at the site of the proposed Kawlos Dam and at Rishen Spring, to examine the geological and hydrogeological controls relevant to regional water-resource planning. The trip concludes in Halabja city, which serves as the final stop for lunch and a tourist visit rather than for geological observation. Participants will link stratigraphy, structure, and hydrogeology along a single traverse.
